雨の日に使う傘 Wagasa for a rainy day
お手元に和傘が届いたら、まずは初めに締め輪を外します。
The first thing to do when you receive your Wagasa is to remove the tightening clasp.
まずは優しく開きます。肩手で傘の柄を持ち手首をまわすと、傘は自然に開きます。
Then open the umbrella gently.
Hold the handle of the umbrella with one hand and turn your wrist to open it automatically.
もう片方の手で「ろくろ」を持ち、ゆっくりと開いてください。和紙を破いてしまうので、開閉時は周りにぶつかるものがないか、確認してください。
Hold the “rokuro” (the clasp on top of Hajiki) with your other hand and open it slowly.
Make sure there is nothing around you to bump into Wagasa when opening and closing it, as this will tear the Washi paper.
ハジキが2段ついている場合、すぼめた状態の傘になるので、雪の日、人混みの時に使用します。
強風の日は使用しないでください。
If it has two hajiki (a wooden or metal clasp attached to the middle of the handle), the umbrella can be squeezed and used on snowy days or when crowded. Do not use it in strong wind.
防水のために油を塗っています。この油は熱によって柔らかくなります。そのため日傘としては使えません。雨の日にご使用ください。
It is coated with oil to make it waterproof. This oil softens with heat, so it cannot be used as a parasol. Please use it on rainy days.
使用後のお手入れ
頭が上になるように、半開きにして吊り下げて、または立て掛けて干してください。1晩ほど乾かして和紙が乾いていればOKです。

Hang it half open so that the head is facing up, or hang it upright to dry, and let it dry overnight.
和傘は頭、上部の部分が和傘の心臓と呼ばれるほど重要なところです。持ち歩く時、手で持つ部分も洋傘と違い、上にあります。上部を地面に擦ったり、ずっと濡れた状態にしないで下さい。
The top part of the wagasa is so important that it is called the heart of the wagasa. You need to hold the top part when you carry it, unlike Western umbrellas.
Do not rub the top part against the ground or keep it wet.
保管について How to store
風通しの良い、日陰に吊るして、または立て掛けて保管ください。締め輪をつけたままにすると油が固まりくっついてしまいます。無理に開くと紙が破れるため、ドライヤーなど温風をあてて油を柔らかくしてから優しく開いてみてください。
Store it hanging or standing in a well-ventilated and shady place. If you leave the tightening clasp on, the oil will harden and paper will stick to each other. To avoid tearing the paper, use a hair dryer to soften the oil before opening it. Both parasols and rain umbrellas are made of natural materials. In rare cases, insects may eat the washi so it is recommended to store them with insect repellent.
油はだんだん黄身をおびていきます。この色の変化も楽しんでいただければと思います。
